Top News Story #3

Strange incident in Professor's Past

Alabama professor Amy Bishop, allegedly shot her colleagues on last Friday's biology department faculty meeting, history is coming up and showing that some authorities could have made a mistake. Twenty three years ago she was also accused of shooting her brother and may have been involved. She recommend to take anger management courses but never seeked help. Her lawyer regrets calling her "wacko" at the press conference but now says "something is deeply wrong with her." In my opinion he is trying to get the insane plea and because she doesn't have any history of medical needs this is the only way to bring it up to the courts attention. Bishop is charged with capital murder and three counts of attempted murder in the shootings at the University of Alabama. Three if Bishop's colleagues were killed and three others were wounded. I remember reading this story last week thinking how ad this story is for the families of the victim as well as the husband of Bishop and her three children.

The news value for this story are novelty and emotions. As a student this story completely shocked me because I have read stories about students being upset at the schools and going there with weapons but teachers as well? Teachers are completely allowed to be angry with the system but she let her emotions get the worst side of her and hurt many people. This story uses emotional value because it does hit close to home for me as a student and to now realize how the families of the victims and also Bishop's are being extremely effected by this.

  1. I'd also add the news value of "impact," especially for students and profs.

I see some typos and grammatical errors here. For example:
    * Your first sentence is a long run-on sentence.
    * She was told to take anger management courses but never sought (not "seeked") help.
